See Eco Brixs in Action in our New Video

Often when people hear about Eco Brixs, we get asked a simple question - “What do you do?”

Well, we do many things simultaneously, which is made possible by our inclusive, circular model that partners with local communities.

Since we were founded in 2017, Eco Brixs’ mission has been to tackle Uganda’s plastic problem and create green jobs for marginalised people.

We do this by empowering local people to collect plastic waste, which they can bring to one of our 56 collection sites across the region. The plastic is weighed and they are paid for each kilogram of plastic they deliver.

From here, Eco Brixs uses circular economy practices to add value to plastic waste. It sorts and segregates the plastic by type. Then, using a variety of processing lines, it recycles the plastic into new sellable Eco-Products (eg. lumber, tables, chairs, pavers) or into PET plastic flake (which can be sold to other closed-loop recycling organisations so they can make their own products).

The revenue is used to buy more plastic from the community, and the cycle begins again.

“After buying the plastic waste we recycle it into different things”

- Esther, Eco Brixs' Receiving and Sorting Manager

Eco Brixs’ model currently recycles 100 tonnes of plastic per month and has supported 4600 people with income opportunities, including marginalised groups such as young people, women and people with disabilities.

This award-winning impact is set to grow further and is down to a huge team effort.

You can see Eco Brixs’ model in action in our new video, which includes interviews with CEO Andy and Esther, who is Eco Brixs’ Receiving and Sorting Manager.
